CBT
If you're planning to buy an A1 or A2 licence, it's important to understand how the procedure is carried out. You'll need to first complete the CBT (compulsory basic training). This is a one-day course that gives you basic instruction on motorcycle riding. It also covers topics such as road safety and the highway code. After completing the CBT you'll have to pass a theory and a practical test.
The theory test consists of multiple-choice questions. the practical test is a ride-through that includes various moves. You'll have to execute each maneuver with precision. If you're not able to do this, you'll fail your test. If you fail the theory or practical tests your license will be suspended.
After having passed both the theory test and practical test and passing both tests, you will be able to apply an A1 license. The A1 licence allows you to ride any motorcycle up to 125cc, and you can also use it to carry passengers or drive on motorways. The A1 licence also allows you to upgrade to the full Category A license at age 24 and over.
The A2 licence is designed for riders who are 19 years old or older, and who wish to move up from their 125cc motorcycle. After you've completed the A2 licence, you are allowed to use any motorcycle that has an engine power of up to 47bhp. You must first finish two years of your A2 license before you are able to apply for the direct access scheme to get a full A license. Before, you could apply for this at 21 years old, but now you must be at least 24 years old to be eligible for the direct access scheme.
Theory Test

Training
